Foundations for Farming in Mexico

Miriam Navarro came from Mexico to the International Champions Conference that was held at Harare’s Centre of Excellence in March 2011. Miriam’s church is in Aguascalientes, Mexico and started implementing Foundations for Farming techniques soon after she returned from Zimbabwe mid-March 2011. Miriam also had the opportunity to share her experiences with the university where she is studying a masters degree. With the help of her father and a friend, she established the first trial test planting of corn using the Foundations for Farming techniques. It was necessary to do trials as the conditions of the region are very different from Zimbabwe, the weather is much dryer and the soils are calcareous, therefore the techniques of the farming will have to change slightly. Trials are also good to show the people in your area what works well and what doesn’t. Miriam has access to an irrigation system which she will use with her trial plots but asks that we pray that God would send good rains to the areas so that the communities can grow good crops as well. She also set up another trial on land belonging to her father ,which is in an area where it rains much more. Many people from her church have assisted Miriam and her father in setting up these trials

In June there was a series of conferences for the leaders involved in the Newfrontiers family of churches held in Mexico. Miriam was asked to give a lecture on Mexico Foundations for Farming and she also translated the Foundations for Farming manual into Spanish for these conferences. During the conference the leaders from Newfrontiers Mexico prayed for Miriam and her the ministry with Foundations for Farming. At the end of the conference Miriam explained about the ministry and some people from other parts of Mexico were interested in becoming involved themselves.

Miriam is seeing God move powerfully in the communities she visits, Foundations for Farming is paving the way for her to enter these communities and see lives changed by the love and grace of God. Please pray for her as she continues to pioneer Foundations for Farming in Mexico. Here are some pray points from her to help you as you pray;

Please can you pray;
For rain in the very dry parts of Mexico that Miriam is teaching into.
That God will raise up men and women committed to helping with the Foundations for Farming outreach in Miriam’s Church in Aguascalientes.
For God to reveal the correct way to adapt this technique to environmental conditions in the regions Miriam is working in in Mexico.

The Foundations for Farming team in Zimbabwe have been really impressed by the way Miriam has set about applying what she learnt at the International Training and is excited to be a part of serving the poor half away around the world in another continent. Miriam was also joined at the International Training by people from many countries including India, Ukraine, UK, and Sudan. So it is amazing to see God working globally to restore the land and feed the poor. If you interested in coming to the next International Training in March 2012 please email admin@foundationsforfarming.org.
